چکیده
Object-oriented database systems are being proposed as the next-generation database technology|especially for so-called non-standard application domains. However, we have argued in an earlier paper [13] that the conventional object paradigm falls short of providing adequate support for such complex application domains as Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM). Today's object-oriented data models still adhere to the conventional procedure invocation execution model. This leads to entirely passive objects whose behavioral pattern is dictated by outside requests under the single-thread-of-control paradigm. Very often, the result is a rather \unnatural" model of complex applications, e.g., CASE and CIM, because the multitude of tasks that are executed in parallel in such distributed application environments has to be forced into a single control ow. We propose to bridge the gap between reality and the informational model by a model of autonomous objects that communicate with each other by \true" message passing. In this paper we present language concepts that enhance the (conventional) object paradigm towards object autonomy and attempt a ( rst) validation based on modelling a sample factory.

A Behavioral Subtyping, Specification Inheritance, and Modular Reasoning
Verification of a dynamically-dispatched method call, E .m(), seems to depend on E ’s dynamic type. To avoid case analysis and allow incremental development, object-oriented program verification uses supertype abstraction. That is, one reasons about E .m() using m’s specification for E ’s static type. Supertype abstraction is valid when each subtype in the program is a behavioral subtype. This ...
متن کاملThe HLA A2/6802 supertype is associated with reduced risk of perinatal human immunodeficiency virus type 1 transmission.
Certain HLAs may, in part, account for differences in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) susceptibility by presenting conserved immunogenic epitopes for T cell recognition. The HLA supertype A2/6802 is associated with decreased susceptibility to HIV-1 among sex workers. The alleles in this supertype present the same HIV-1 peptide epitopes for T cell recognition in some cases. This stud...
متن کامل“Learning to Learn” HLA-Peptide Binding Specificity using Supertypes
Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) peptide interactions are at the heart of the cellular immune response, as they are responsible for the presentation of pathogen-derived peptides on the surface of infected cells. Therefore considerable experimental and computational efforts have been made to characterize this interaction and predict epitopes for peptide-based vaccines. This task is complic...
متن کاملHLA Class I Supertype Associations With Clinical Outcome of Secondary Dengue Virus Infections in Ethnic Thais.
BACKGROUND Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) supertypes are groups of functionally related alleles that present structurally similar antigens to the immune system. OBJECTIVES To analyze HLA class I supertype associations with clinical outcome in hospitalized Thai children with acute dengue illness. METHODS Seven hundred sixty-two patients and population-matched controls recruited predominantly ...
متن کاملPromiscuous CTL recognition of viral epitopes on multiple human leukocyte antigens: biological validation of the proposed HLA A24 supertype.
Multiple HLA class I alleles can bind peptides with common sequence motifs due to structural similarities in the peptide binding cleft, and these groups of alleles have been classified into supertypes. Nine major HLA supertypes have been proposed, including an A24 supertype that includes A*2301, A*2402, and A*3001. Evidence for this A24 supertype is limited to HLA sequence homology and/or simil...
